Kevens Landscape provides landscape design in Teravalis, Buckeye, AZ, including Floreo, the community's first village. If you have just moved in, we can turn the bare lot behind your new home into a shaded, usable backyard that fits the community's water-wise standards.
Teravalis welcomed its first residents in late 2025. It sits in north Buckeye on open desert between the White Tank and Belmont mountains, and it is planned to grow for decades. Right now that means new streets, young trees and block-wall backyards with nothing in them yet.
Starting from nothing is an advantage. There is no old concrete to tear out and no bad layout to work around. With a plan drawn before anything is built, every dollar goes toward the finished yard.
The first months in the house are the right time to plan, in this order:
Collect your plot plan and the builder's grading and drainage plan, and leave the grading alone until you know where it sends rainwater.
Decide whether a pool is a yes, a no or a maybe, because excavation equipment needs a way in.
Review the whole yard in a 3D landscape design before pouring a slab or planting a tree.
Confirm approvals. We check with the Teravalis Community Association and the City of Buckeye on what your plan needs before construction is scheduled.
Shade Comes First
In a brand-new neighborhood the trees are years away from casting real shade, and a west-facing patio can be too hot to use from May through September. We plan shade into every Teravalis design from day one:
Light-colored paving that stays cooler underfoot than dark surfaces
The kind of shade matters as much as the amount. A solid-roof ramada blocks the high midday sun and gives you a place for a fan and lights, while an open pergola only filters it. Neither stops the low sun late in the day, so we add something vertical on the west side: a screen, a wall section or a tree.
Trees are the long-term answer, so we plant them in the first phase, chosen from the low-water plant lists that apply to the community. Each is set where its mature canopy will shade a window or patio without hanging over a pool.
Designing for Teravalis' Water Standards
Teravalis was planned around water conservation. The community's published commitments call for desert landscaping with drought-tolerant plants in place of natural grass at homes, drip irrigation run by weather-based controllers, and limits on residential pool size. The City of Buckeye also requires low-water-use plants in new landscapes.
None of that rules out a green, comfortable yard. Artificial turf gives kids and pets a lawn without the water bill. Desert-adapted shrubs and accents provide color in every season. A compact pool or spa can be designed within the community's size limits. We confirm the current rules with the Teravalis Community Association for each project and prepare the plans for any approval you need.
A Yard That Feels Green Without a Lawn
A desert yard does not have to mean gravel and a single cactus. Green comes in layers: tree canopy overhead, leafy shrubs at eye level, groundcovers across the gravel and vines trained up the block wall, with a panel of turf in the middle.
We group plants by water need so each drip zone runs on its own schedule, and a weather-based controller adjusts run times through the year. Our water-saving irrigation tips cover the details.
Artificial Turf for Kids and Pets
Turf works when the part you cannot see is built correctly. We compact a crushed-rock base and grade it so water drains through the backing and away from the house. For dogs, we use infill made to control odor and put a hose bib within reach, because regular rinsing keeps a pet area clean.
Heat is the main drawback. Turf in full summer sun gets hot, so we put play areas where afternoon shade falls, and a quick spray from the hose cools the surface. We also confirm with the association whether turf needs approval before it goes on the plan.
Getting More From a Compact Pool or Spa
A smaller pool has advantages of its own: less water to fill, treat and heat, less evaporation, and more room left for patio, shade and turf.
The design does the rest. A wide sun shelf gives small children a place to play, bench seating turns the pool into a place to talk, and a raised spa can be used through the winter. We place the equipment away from bedroom windows and plan the excavator's route before the side yards are finished.

Build in Phases if You Need To
A new home comes with a long list of expenses. Our landscape design and build process produces one complete plan for the yard, and you can build it all at once or in stages. Many owners start with the patio, shade and turf, with sleeves and utilities already in place for a pool or kitchen later. Financing is also available for qualified homeowners.
Planning ahead keeps a later phase affordable. Before the pavers go down, we lay empty sleeves under them for future irrigation, gas, electrical and lighting runs, stub a gas line to the spot where the kitchen will stand and check that the electrical panel has room for pool equipment. If a pool is planned, we keep an equipment route open along one side yard.

Teravalis Landscaping FAQs
Can I have grass in my backyard?
Teravalis is designed around desert landscaping instead of natural grass at homes. Artificial turf is the usual answer. We check current community rules before designing.
Can I build a pool in Teravalis?
The community has published size and depth limits for residential pools. We design within them and confirm requirements before you commit.
How soon can you start after I close?
Design can begin as soon as you have your plot plan, even before closing. That way the plan is ready when you get the keys. Construction begins once you own the home and any required approval is in hand.
Do I need approval before building my backyard?
We confirm with the Teravalis Community Association what your project needs and prepare the plans for it. Pools, gas lines and electrical work can also need City of Buckeye permits.
Can I add a pool or outdoor kitchen later?
Yes, if the first phase is planned for it. We leave an equipment route open and run sleeves, gas and conduit ahead of time, so the later work does not mean tearing out finished paving.
Get Started in Teravalis
A Teravalis backyard starts as bare ground inside a block wall, in a community planned around saving water and too young to have shade trees. That makes the order of decisions matter: shade first, then surfaces that stay comfortable, then planting and water features chosen with water use in mind. Landscape design in Teravalis, Buckeye, AZ is largely a matter of getting that order right before anything is poured.
At your free consultation we go over your plot plan, talk about how your household will use the yard and what you want to build now or later, and explain how the 3D design works. Call (623) 535-7654 or request a landscape design estimate to book a consultation.
